Questions to be answered
"learning occurs if only the child add something new to the present information". one of the dimensions of Pedagogy is correlating the prior knowledge with new knowledge. The big question comes as who are responsible to construct the knowledge of these students which sometimes later can be defined as prior knowledge of the students. so is it the responsibility of them or the environment they live? We being secondary teachers are able to meet them when they reach only to secondary grade. so does students current level really makes a difference for us to be an effective teacher? Do primary teachers have more responsibility in nurturing their students to be more ideal than secondary teachers?

I think both primary and secondary teachers have to take equal responsibility .In primary grades students are given opportunities to participate in their own learning actively.Students participation in acquiring knowledge is more in the primary grades. But , once they go to secondary , learning is restricted to the 4 walls of the classroom.Students ability to think about their learning hinders. As a result some of the students are not able to bring out their full potential.
ReplyDeleteyes Irasha you are correct.we as primary teachers can nurture our children's by the way we want .but the problem is when they go to secondary grade their behaviors change unexpectedly.we see lots of differences from them both their behaviors and academic.i beleive that there is a broblem with transfering students from primary to secondary.
ReplyDeletei do agree with shaamaly to some extent. but i think changing behaviors in secondary grades may be because of certain conditions too. for example the age group they are in. in addition in secondary grade they may want to be more independent than primary and according to my experience i should say that it may also be because of changing pattern of teaching in secondary grade. in secondary grade most teachers follow result oriented teaching methods and so give importance to complete the syllabus etc
ReplyDeletean interesting argument.
