Student diversity



Some of the differences we notice from classrooms are:
Dress style, gender, race, age, ethnicity, physical abilities, family history, religion, political beliefs, intellectual ability and learning styles. (Roza, 2013)

2.   Culture and Socio Economic Status
Cultural Competence now refers to the process by which individuals and systems respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, disabilities, religions, genders, sexual orientation and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth of individuals, families and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each.

3. Special Educational Needs
Students with individual differences
Students with learning challenges
Students with learning disabilities
Students with hyperactivity and attention disorders
Students with language and communication disorders
Students with emotional and behavioral disorders

4. Teachers’ role in handling the students
Students should be educated about the diversity of the world around them.
Validate students’ cultural identity in classroom practices and instructional materials.
Address student ability and achievement validity select texts and readings whose language is gender-neutral and free of stereotypes
Speak up promptly If a student makes a distasteful remark even jokingly
Recognize the complexity of diversity
